The WA Perinatal Mental Health Unit (WAPMHU) works to promote the emotional wellbeing of mothers and their families during the perinatal period. The unit conducts research into perinatal mental health, develops resources, provides community education and holds training sessions for health professionals.
WAPMHU?s six staff- the Coordinator, Education and Training Officer, Research Officer, Health Promotion Officer, Administrative Assistant and Website Developer- are based at King Edward Memorial Hospital under the Department of Psychological Medicine.
The activities of WAPMHU are guided by the State Perinatal Reference Group (SPRG), a committee including WA government, non-government and consumer representatives. SPRG brings together a wealth of knowledge and experience in the health of mothers, fathers, infants and families.
